On the Staff  Answer 15 questions in 2 minutes.

Rhythm:

Rhythmic Dictation   Select “Custom – All” difficulty, 4/4 time, 70bpm. Be able to get at least 3 out of 4 tries correct. If this is too difficult, start at the “Medium” or “Hard” level. (Also see Rhythmic Dictation password protected page)

Melodic Dictation   Select and print an answer form for “Level 1”. Then complete at least 4 exercises. Listen to each example 4 times while you write down the missing notes on the answer form. Check your answers AFTER filling in completely. (Also see Rhythmic Dictation password protected page)

Ear Training:

Identify Intervals, Basic: Half Steps, Whole Steps, MAJOR 3rds, 4ths, Tritones, 5ths, MAJOR 6ths, MAJOR 7ths and Octaves  (Minor 2nd is Half Step, Major 2nd is Whole Step.)  Answer 30 questions in 5 minutes

Identify Intervals, Extended: MAJOR and Minor 3rds, MAJOR and Minor 6ths, MAJOR and Minor 7ths  (Minor 2nd is Half Step, Major 2nd is Whole Step. Major and minor 3rds, 6ths and 7ths.)  Answer 25 questions in 5 minutes.

Augmented 4th/Tritone = “The Simpsons” = “Maria” (West Side Story)
Perfect 5th = “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
Minor 6th = 3rd and 4th notes of “The Entertainer”

Intervals on the Staff:

4ths, 5ths and Tritones: “Augmented 4ths” and “Diminished 5ths” are both Tritones. Intervals are displayed as double stops. Answer 15 questions in 3 minutes.

Scales:

Minor Scale Construction, on the staff  Add sharps or flats to create each scale. Natural minors only. Answer 15 questions in 3 minutes.

Key Signatures:

Key Signature Identification  Answer 20 questions in 4 minutes. Includes relative minors.

Key Signature Construction Add sharps or flats to create minor key signatures. Answer 10 questions in 2 minutes.
