Note Names:

On the Staff  30 questions, 4 minutes

Note Construction  20 questions, 2 minutes

Intervals on the Staff:

Half Steps (m2), Whole Steps (M2), Thirds, Fourths (P4), Fifths (P5), Sixths and Octaves (P8)   Note: m2 is a half step, M2 is a whole step. Major 3rds and 6ths only.  Answer 20 questions correctly in 3 minutes.

Key Signatures:

Key Signature Identification – Major keys only  15 questions, 2 minutes. Major keys only.

Key Signature Construction  20 questions, 3 minutes.

Scales:

Scale Construction, on the staff  Add sharps or flats to create each scale. Includes major and natural minor scales. 20 questions, 4 minutes.

Rhythm:

Counting  In-Studio Only (iPad app): Receive at least a Purple Belt on the Ningenius Rhythm test at Ningenius level.

Rhythmic Dictation  Online test at link: select “Custom” Difficulty, and choose Whole, Half, Quarter and Dotted Half notes only. Select 4/4 time, 70bpm, then start the quiz. Take it 4 times — Be able to get at least 3 out of 4 tries correct. It’s OK to only do a couple of beats at a time and listen again for a hint.

Ear Training:

INTERVALS Required: Half Steps (m2), Whole Steps (M2), Fourths (P4), Fifths (P5) and Octaves (P8)  (Minor 2nd is Half Step, Major 2nd is Whole Step.)  Answer 20 questions in 4 minutes.
INTERVALS Optional: Same as above but add 3rds and 6ths. 20 questions/4 minutes

Minor 2nd = “Jaws”
Major 2nd = first two notes of a major scale or “Happy Birthday”
Major 3rd = “Kum-ba-ya” or climbing up “Doe a Deer”
Perfect 4th = “Here Comes the Bride”
Perfect 5th = “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”
Major 6th = “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”
Octave = “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”
