Covid-19 Reopening Plan

UPDATED AUGUST 30, 2020

Offering private music lessons fits into Washington State’s “professional service” business category. Safety guidelines for such businesses will be followed as they are announced and updated by Washington State Department of Commerce.

Here are the measures that are being taken to maintain health and hygiene for students and teacher.

  • Don’t come to the studio if you or anyone in your household has any Covid symptoms!!! We will switch to an online lesson.
  • Everyone must wear a mask while in the studio. No mask — no entry.
  • One parent may accompany a minor student in the main studio. Siblings may sit in the foyer while they wait; they must bring their own activities to occupy themselves AND be wearing a mask.
  • Remote viewing of lessons is available on Zoom or Facetime if you are waiting in your car.
  • Shoes off in the studio. Bring your own slippers if you would like to wear them; the slipper basket has been removed for now.
  • A brief changeover time may be needed between back-to-back in-studio lessons for surface cleaning. Wait for prior student(s) to come outside before you come in.
  • Students should wash their hands before and after their lesson, in the restroom. Hand-washing is preferable to hand sanitizer for violin/viola students because of damage that sanitizer can cause to varnish on instruments.
  • I can maintain a 6-foot distance between myself and students, with a clear plastic curtain in between.
  • I type student notes into a shared Google Document to be accessed online at home. I can print out these notes to give to the student before they leave the studio.
  • I will follow legal guidelines from MTNA (my professional organization) to protect myself as well as my students. Parents must sign a waiver in order to have their student(s) enter my studio under these conditions. I will email a link to the waiver form to parents individually.
